About Cory Potrafka

The Circle Of Life

Born in Muskeegon, MI the son of a potter and a soft sculpture artist, Cory became accustomed to spending days in the studio and weekends at art shows. At the age of eight, his family moved to the Appalachian mountains as his father, Wayne Potrafka, pursued a full time career creating hand thrown stoneware pottery. The family eventually landed in the Tidewater area of Virginia where Wayne founded and ran two art galleries for many years. Cory's early immersion in the arts led to his auditing of college pottery classes at the age of 13. Despite showing a propensity towards the ceramic arts from a very young age, Cory's passion for music won over in his early twenties and lead him down a 20 year path performing at venues and festivals across the eastern United States.
But life has a way of circling around and has brought Cory, now with a family of his own, back to the Appalachian Mountains and back to the pottery studio. The long hiatus has left him with a lot of catch up work to do but at least there is no better place to do it than the mountains of Floyd, VA!
